Cindy Van Acker and her dancers present a last performance as part of the exhibition La Pologne rêvée. 100 chefs-d’œuvre du musée national de Varsovie at the Hermitage Foundation. Using the works presented at l’Hermitage as a starting point, they create a unique short piece over the course of a day, based on their encounter with the work chosen that morning.

Initiated at Fondation de l’Hermitage, the Impromptus will be presented in Avignon as part of the Sélection Suisse 2025.

Using the pieces presented at the Collection Lambert as a starting point, Cindy Van Acker and her collaborators – Tilouna Morel, Daniela Zaghini, Matthieu Chayrigues, Stéphanie Bayle (performance) and Denis Rollet (sound creation and diffusion) will create a special performance over the course of a day, based on their encounter with the work chosen that morning. Taking a step back, holding space for composition and play in the here and now, to create a small piece with the utmost care and lightness.

To round off the season and celebrate the arrival of summer, the Pavillon opens its doors for two days of performances, inside and out. On this occasion, Cindy Van Acker and the dancers of Compagnie Greffe present Impromptu IV, the 4th performance in the Impromptus series initiated at the Fondation de l’Hermitage in Lausanne. With the Impromptus project, Cindy Van Acker experiments with a new relationship to creation, in a simplified approach to space and audience.

Corps 00:00 is part of the selection of archives of historical works exhibited at the Arsenic, in collaboration with the SAPA Foundation, Swiss Archive of the Performing Arts, during the Fête de la Danse Lausanne.

This is an opportunity to (re)discover this 2002 piece on video. Faced with a body deliberately captured as a pile of bones and meat subjected to the law of gravitation, Cindy Van Acker questions the birth, purpose, essence and meaning of movement. Corps 00:00 marks the choreographer’s entry onto the international contemporary dance scene, including a programming at the Venice Biennale, at the invitation of Romeo Castellucci.

A sonic journey through rhythm and abstraction by the cult Japanese post-rock ensemble goat (jp). Originally composed as the score for Cindy Van Acker’s eponymous dance piece​ Without References, this release expands the group’s radical approach to rhythm and structure into the realm of contemporary performance.

It all started with an invitation for Cie Greffe to set up at Pavillon ADC for three weeks, in order to recycle existing choreographic elements rather than creating new ones. The result was Occupation / Frayage topologique, early 2022. Also invited was playwright and author Michèle Pralong, who decided to jot down as much as possible of what she heard during this residency. She then reworked all these oral snippets and arranged them in a montage entitled je cherche mes clés   je trouve des loukoums. On the occasion of the book launch, Michèle Pralong and Alain Berset, founder of the publishing house Héros-Limite, will be taking part in a discussion, moderated by Maria Da Silva. A sound installation by artist, musician and sound landscape designer Olga Kokcharova based on Michèle Pralong’s book will be available to listen to on the Pavillon stage. You will also be able to rediscover the sound installation produced by artist Denis Rollet and dancer Stéphanie Bayle for Frayage topologique / an Occupation of ADC Pavillon.

Cindy Van Acker’s latest creation is a powerful, atmospheric work. It is inhabited by two magnificent performers, Stéphanie Bayle and Daniela Zaghini, who modulate the stage with their presence and absence. Quiet Light tracks down sensations of ephemerality and evanescence drawing on pictorial fragility, temporal porosity, furtive encounters, and the precision of line. After its premiere at LAC – Lugano Arte e Cultura for the Lugano Dance Project Festival in June, the piece hits to the road.

Music & dance: while the two art forms are closely linked in most cultures, this is not the case for the disciplines that study them. Musicology has taken a selective interest in dance, while dance research, which has developed only recently, takes into account the role of music – many choreographers in fact work on their relationship with music in a singular way.  The sessions alternate case studies, readings of research papers, and practical experiments (e.g. on the rhythm of walking).

Cindy Van Acker is the 2023 winner of the Swiss Grand Award for the Performing Arts / Hans Reinhart Ring.

With this award, the Federal Office of Culture recognises her work that is at the crossroads of several disciplines and her diverse commitment to the Swiss cultural scene.

Her desire to create is combined with a desire to discover and offer new temporal and imaginary spaces, to open up a space of availability where one can wander happily, work on what happens, or give back time its space. Van Acker needs the stage to retain its character as a space of freedom, protected from seduction and consumerism, where contemplation, radicalism, transgression, and melancholy have their place. Movement is everywhere and constantly changing.

Since Cie Greffe was founded in 2002, Van Acker has won two Swiss Dance Awards for two remarkable creations: in 2013 for Diffraction and in 2019 for Speechless Voices. She has also been awarded the Leenaards Culture Prize 2023.

The Swiss Grand Award for the Performing Arts / Hans Reinhart Ring is the highest in the performing arts in Switzerland. Awarded by the Federal Office of Culture in cooperation with the Swiss Theatre Society, it rewards a person or institution active in the performing arts in Switzerland.
